The problem referred to here is called Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

Munchausen Syndrome is a situation where a person claims all manner of
illnesses/injuries in order to be paid attention to when there is, in fact,
nothing wrong with the person.

By proxy version is seen in mothers who harm their babies (most often, they
report baby is passing out) [when videotaped, the mothers were found to be
smothering babies and then calling for help]. Babies have died as a result
of this and similar behavior.

A mother exhibiting this behavior NEEDS HELP!  Her baby needs protection!!

If you suspect something like this is going on, report your suspicions.
Better risk being called a nut and a life is saved than doing nothing out
of potential embarrassment and feeling guilty the rest of your life... in
my opinion.

Is the mother reported by Anne Robb engaged in this behavior? I do not
know.  But the fact that she lied to LC about what MD had told the mother
to do raises the hair on the back of my neck. Why would the mother lie
about what the MD had said and do none of what has been recommended?
Sounds very suspicious to me.
