I just heard from a mother whose GP was reluctant to prescribe an antibiotic
for her infected nipples. She had cultured the open sores which are making
feeds very uncomfortable and a penicillinase-producing staph aureus grew up.
The doctor got the culture results, though the culture was taken at a
hospital outpatient clinic.
The doc reluctantly wrote a prescription for erythromycin, and told the
mother she should express and discard her milk while taking it.
I am posting this because I can't remember the last time I heard of such an
abysmal level of knowledge in a Norwegian doctor. Just so nobody gets the
idea things are perfect here!
