Ros,

I think requiring parents to bring their own ABM with them to the hospital
is a GREAT idea. That way, the hospital can get out of the politics of
buying it. The ABM companies have to target their advertising to parents
before the birth, which makes it considerably more difficult, especially if
they can't advertise on TV. Most mothers (I think I heard it is about 80%)
continue using the formula given their babies in the hospital, which is why
the ABM companies TRY SO HARD to get THEIRS in there. New parents are
sometimes so inexperienced (gullible?) that they think the formula given the
baby in the hospital is the ONLY one they should even consider, and that is
EXACTLY what the companies want them to think!

Linda Smith, Your paper on Baby Bottle Tooth Decay (BBTD) is GREAT. I hope
it made a difference with the Ohio Dept. Health. How can they ignore the
studies?
