Just a quick note to all of you (like myself) who give out free stuff to
patients. I routinely get boxes and boxes and boxes of those magazines with
samples sealed inside. When a new batch comes in I open one and inspect it.
If it is particularly bad I just put it out by the trash. Usually the
housekeeping staff get all the samples, but at least the deceptive
information never gets to our patients. When it is just the sample which is
deleterious to breastfeeding I extract it and either throw it or give it to
a more appropriate area of the clinic (we have so many undocumented folks,
there is always someone who can use a product).

When I have the time I actually open each and every packet and sort through
the stuff, putting the samples of neutral stuff only in baskets in the
center of the table where I do my classes. It doesn't take long for them to
disappear.

Remember, there is a member of the list who keeps track of "Code"
violations. Always send her a sample of packets which blatantly breech the
code.
