Release of Tongue-Tie in Neonates Immediately Improves Breastfeeding

The GP's and residents at our hospital in the 1950's all knew this, and routinely clipped tight frenulums at the first physical exam in the nursery. The grooved tongue director was included in the sterilized pack of intruments for circumcisions!

Somewhere along the line in the transition from GP's delivering and caring for both mom and babe, to OB's caring for moms and Peds caring for babes, this got lost in the "great peripartum canyon" that separated them!

One wonders what small part, if any, TT might have played in the dip in BF rates covering that time priod??? It was also during this decade that our hospital stopped making its own formula in the formula kitchen, and the commercial formula onslaught of commercialized staff education (not all of which was bad information, BTW) and competitivew bids etc. began.
