Dawn, this isn't someone who walked into an interview, completely
unaware of the issues. This is someone who wanted interviewed, in order
to point out he was being mis-represented. Having already been
mis-represented, he then made statements that were completely
destructive. As I said at the time, if this is an advocate, heaven help us.

Being interviewed is actually relatively simple. Prepare yourself for
making three absolute statements. Write them down. Make them short and
to the point. Make them snappy. Tell yourself in advance the things
you Will Not Say. In terms of breastfeeding, that's a pretty known list
- we know what the media will say.

If all else fails, make sure you get one point out - No Matter What.
Act like you are dealing with a toddler about to go into a tantrum -
deflect and distract from challenging behaviour from the interviewer.
Keep on your agenda at all points. It is actually very like dealing
with a small child trying to make you go in a direction you don't want
to go.

The real skill, is finding the confidence to keep to your own path and
lay out your own vision. No website will give you that confidence. If
you know you don't have it, then stay clear. Especially if you are
already plastered across the mainstream media of five continents. If
you want your version to be heard, send out a press release with the
short, snappy comments contained in them. It's the stuff Kramer has
genuinely said, that I object to.

If you are the sort to make long and detailed points without any sound
bites - read Chomsky and forego interviews.

There are a thousand websites which will give you basic rules. But like
I said, it comes from confidence and vision about what you are saying.
No one can teach you that. But they can certainly point out when it's
lacking.

I find myself returning to yet another post about the difference between
good intentions and minimum competency. :-(
