First, I want to Thank you all so very much for such a wealth of knowledge
and myriad of experiences that you have all had and are willing to share. I am
learning so much by just reading many of the post's. However, I do not like to
post myself because I am new and do not have nearly as much input as you
all have. I did try to check the archives for answers to my question, but I did
not really get my question answered.
Today I spoke with a Mom of a 7 month old baby who is nursing only 2x a
day. Mom has back discomfort from "straining it at work". She is going to PT
and taking muscle relaxants. These things are not helping very much and 2 of
her doctors have suggested that "if she quits nursing she will heal in one
week". They blame the hormones involved in nursing for her inability to heal
quickly. I know that prolactin has some sort of pro-inflammatory effect for
things like RA, and thar Relaxin in preganancy can cause joint issues... but I
am not really clear on what these doctors are talking about? Are they
just "blaming" nursing because they do not know the cause of it? Mom kept
saying that she really wants to continue nursing and the Doctors have said
the baby already has all the benefits (which we all know is just plain silly). Do
you know of any sound research on healing and lactation? Any suggestions
on information I could provide to Mom?
Thank you for your help.
