It is such a good example of how well meaning do gooders do harm and then
congratulate themselves on it.

The baby's mother "didn't want to breastfeed"- as it turned out, this may
have been because she was HIV positive and was concerned that she could
transmit HIV to her baby or it could have been because she thought that
formula was good for her baby, who knows. But instead of digging to the
bottom of that issue the do gooders provide formula. Not surprisingly, in
the circumstances, the baby does very poorly. Maybe underfed (perhaps the
formula was being sold), maybe just plain old malnutrition as a result of
diarrhoea caused by formula feeding. Baby taken for medical care (only
really good thing that happened). Baby eventually abandoned- another
predictable consequence of formula feeding (especially in a very stressful
environment). Oh and they display the photo of the mother, an unbelievably
unethical thing to do (let us show you this evil woman we saved this baby
from). Baby then institutionalised, and at risk of all of the things
associated with that including brain damage and abuse- and all is wonderful.

Such a distressing story to watch...try commenting on the blog and see if
you're more successful than I was.
