Hi all

Posting for a friend with permission.

Her husband has been diagnosed with Leukemia, and has had a bone marrow transplant. Right now he has no white blood cells. He has developed mucositis and is being tube fed as a result. He is on a high protein diet of cooked protein to avoid any risk of infection, and will need to be on this for 100 days at least.

She was wondering about using donor breastmilk to help her husband heal. Does anyone know if there is any research out there that she could use to present her idea to the medical team? She has a donor with frozen breastmilk about a month old. The nursling is about 1.5 years old.

Does anyone know if she would need to wait until after the 100 days of almost sterile food before using EBM?

Does anyone know if stem cells survive the freezing process?

Any help, advice, research, prayers would be very much appreciated. This family is desperate, their daughter is fighting thyroid cancer, her husband leukemia, at times it all seems like too much to bear, and any help would be so very much appreciated,

Thank you all in advance for your help,
Sonya
