Hello, lactation experts across the globe!

I just got a bit of a stumper for a medication question. Mom has been
prescribed to take either Bentyl (dicyclomine, which is related to diazepam,
aka Valium) 10mg 3 times/day OR Librax (not sure of quantity), for colitis.
She didn't sound sure of the diagnosis. Baby is 18 days old. Bentyl, as
per Hale 2000, is Non-reviewed by the AAP, an L4 Lactation Risk according to
him, and with a half-life of 9-10 hrs, is not easy to nurse around. Severe
apnea reported in 1 12 day-old infant who's mother was receiving a 20mg
dose. Neither of us is exactly thrilled with the prospect of her nursing
while on this medication.

The doctor told her that she could, if she wanted to, take Librax instead.
Librax is not in Hale, but according to Mosby's is a combination of:
chlordiazepoxide & clidinium. Chlordiazepoxide reads only mildly better to
my eyes than the dicyclomine (also Not Reviewed, an L3 at best, L4 for
chronic use, half life of 5 -30 hrs, 90-98% protein bound, oral
bioavailability is complete), and clidinium was not in Hale. I have done a
Lactnet search for the clidinium, to no avail.

My questions are....any opinions out there on clidinium? If it's not a
concern, then is the Librax a better option than the Dicyclomine? If not,
does she have any better options? She has another 12 days to go yet on
medication, by which time the baby will be a month old. Still a salvageable
situation breastfeeding-wise, but I'd like to get her nursing sooner than
that if possible. For the time being, she's going to pump/dump.

My thanks in advance to all who answer! I would ask you to email me at home
in addition to emailing this list, since I only receive Lactnet at work, and
will be going home in a half hour. My email address at home is
