Dear Kathleen, see the same in Atlantic City NJ - and the speech is a mess,
always sending kids for speech therapy. I think the effects of a pacifier
on speech are very negative. My personal thoughts on pacifiers - they are
OK once supply established, baby gaining and baby wants a great deal of
sucking. There seems to be a natural time to get rid of them between 5-7
mo. Parents need to watch that they aren't using it as a plug -literally.
If baby goes past the 5-7 mo time frame they seem to need paci's for the
long haul, 2-4 years.
That's my personal and clinical observations. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
