Hi all,
I have a friend who has recently had her first mammogram - she is 43 and has
been told that she has a suspicious area which looks like radial scarring or a
band of fibrous tissue that must be removed. Biopsy shows no malignancy but
has been told that it could change to become cancerous if not removed. She
has breastfed 4 children into preschool years with her last self weaning in
November 06 at close to 4 years of age. We do not have many moms who
breastfeed this long in our community. She is wondering if this suspicious area
could be related to the breastfeeding? A duct with coagulated milk or a
galactocele or something? She does not feel anything herself. She is scheduled
for surgery in the next few months and is not questioning it but wonders if it is
related to recent weaning. For those of you who work in areas of the world
where extended nursing is the norm what are your thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance.
