Look for horses before zebras.

Question her closely as to whether she has been favoring that one side more,
by starting feedings on it a lot oftener than the other. Or have sleeping
arrangements changed so that the baby is nursing on that one side a lot more
at night than before?

It is entirely possible to begin at about any time during lactation to build
up an imbalance and potential slight oversupply and resultant "overactive"
MER on one side if it is drained oftener and/or more efficiently than the
other. Why not first try simply to have her pay attention and reverse the
stimulation pattern somewhat for a week or so, and use anti-gravity or
neutral gravity positions on the affected side in the meantime. Or trigger
the MER by hand first and wait 3-4 minutes before offering the
"trigger-happy" breast till things balance out again. A careful review of
breastfeeding habits or management is worth a try before referrals or
anything drastic.
