I wonder if it could be related to food sensitivities?  The baby may
be torn between wanting to fill up his tummy, while not wanting the
discomfort that comes with eating.  Is there a family history of
foods that "don't agree with" some members?  The mom may wish to try
an elimination diet and see if it helps her baby.
