I was interested in the JOGNN topic - I know when we were working to
increase our VBAC rate, one of the MDs who presented talked about the
importance of administering pitocin properly. Many nurses are not willing to
progress the dose at what was then considered optimal - for most moms, in a
doubling progression of .5 mU. 1 mU, 2 mU, 4mU, 8 mU. You could be up to
that (often "therapeutic") region in an hour and a half - or in eight hours.
This however is a discussion for another list and I don't even want to talk
about the practice of nearly-universal induction (which is not thank heavens
totally universal here in Brattleboro, where we are able to get good safe
births fairly regularly....)
