I've been reviewing the PROBIT study and have some questions hopefully someone has some insight into. Belarus is located north of the Ukraine and east of Russia. In 1986 the Chernobyl nuclear plant exploded (we're talking radiation here). 70% of the fallout landed on Belarus. To date, nearly one million people have died.
Now lets look at Michael Kramers study results. 'A breastfeeding promotion intervention program does not affect the risk for asthma, allergy, eczema symptoms, or positive skin prick test results by the age of 6.5 years.' Really?

Why was a study of this magnitude done in a country that has had such a large scale catastrophe on it's people and environment. In Belarus thyroid cancer in children is over 60 times higher then pre Chernobyl. Apparently the soil, foliage and water in highly contaminated areas still contain substantial levels of radioactive chemicals. How can we possibly conclude from this study that breastfeeding does not have some protective effect. Am I missing something here?
