Loretta:

I am appalled at the misinformation that your patient was given by her
OB/GYN. Of course, breastfeeding cannot be responsible for her prolapsed bladder.
Without being judgemental (even though I would love to ask where this person got
his/her medical degree or in what century), I would suggest that this woman
get a second opinion (not with a physician in that group). One of the most
important things that we can teach our patients is that they do have the right to
question their physician. Not just a right, a responsibility to themselves
and their children. One of the things that has always amazed me is how meekly
people accept the pronouncements of their doctors, even when they sound
ridiculous. It is also questionable that this doc wants to do surgery so quickly
without trying any other alternatives. That would be a real red flag for me.
Hope this helps some. I know how hard it is to stand up to "God" (doctors),
but it really is a skill that we should teach.
