In reply to your post (Pearl Shifer) about breast milk in the treatment of
HIV. I have been working with an Australian researcher on this very thing.
He is currently working in Louisiana. He was using goats in his work. I
went to him and asked why he had not considered human milk. He was
unfamiliar with human lactation all together. He became very interested.
The concentration of his interest seems to be in the first 3 weeks of
breastfeeding. I am trying to get him to extend his scope. I presented the
idea to several physicians in the Dallas area over a year ago. I do not
currently hold an RN or have ever worked on a research project. This has
closed the door in many cases. This Dr. seems to hold validity to my ideas
at least and seems very interested in continuing. I would like to see all
HIV babies fed human milk via milk banks. I am a small breastfeeding educator
(working toward IBCLC) with big ideas I guess!
