I apologise if this has been a topic of discussion in the past.  A colleague brought to my attention the case outlined in the two articles below.  A newborn was, according to the coroner's report, suffocated while bedsharing with mom in the hospital only a few hours after birth.  He was resuscitated but died ten days later.  It's such a sad story.

This prompted us all to go back to the quality sources about bed-sharing and recall the point about the parents being both willing and able to respond to the baby while bed-sharing.
