Dear Lacnetters,

I came across this artikel about wet nursing in the journal 'Midwifery'.

An analysis of Simpson's notebook data on the wet nurse
Rosemary Mander MSc PhD SCM MTD, Readerf1
School of Nursing Studies, University of Edinburgh, 31 Buccleuch Place,
Edinburgh, EH8 9JT, UK

The article is about a Scottishm, male midwife who kept notes on 749 wet
nurses in Edinborough. It's a fascinating article. For example the author
writes about how wet-nurses were fired when the baby being nursed is 8-10
months old because the breast milk becomes 'old' and is no longer
nutritious - really!!!!!!!

It looks like a good read (I've just skimmed through it as yet) if your
interested in wet nursing - and it's free online via :
http://www.sciencedirect.com

Midwifery
Volume 19, Issue 1 , March 2003, Pages 46-54

groetjes
