I remember when Diflucan first came out, we were using it only on HIV patients. Prior to that, it was Flagyl. We drew lab work every couple of weeks to check liver enzymes etc.

But, we are not talkiing about long-term use of Diflucan here. When you post these dangerous side effects you are looking at long term use. (this happens with Reglan as well). Prescribed appropiately, the short -term use of Diflucan is safe and very effective for systemic yeast. (2-4 wks) Unfortunately, many of these persistent or recurring cases are fueled by diet, cross-contamination and environment. Everything has to be looked at and addressed together for the best outcome......that is our job.

What bothers me is too many women are prescribed meds but not given any other information that would directly impact their recovery. Pain from nipple thrush is commonly a "deal breaker" for many moms and they quit breastfeeding. The best thing is prevention, next to that, prompt and effective treatment, the sooner, the better.
