Hello All:

I am typically a "lurker" but gain so much knowledge from reading all your
excellent and frequently (especially Dr. Jack) entertaining posts.

Could one of you hook me up with resources for pump rental and information on
lactation consultants in the metro Atlanta (Powder Springs, GA) area? Are any
of you in Georgia yourselves and available to take clients?

My baby sister (11 years younger) is due in May with her first child. She is
very large breasted. She is motivated to breastfeed, in fact she is putting
off a breast reduction even though she has back pain until she has both of the
children she has planned, to facilitate breastfeeding. Her closest friend
there breastfed her child until he was well over one year, which tells me she
will have good support locally. My one area of concern is that she always
says, when questioned, "I'll try...I really want to." I guess it's a subtle
thing, but that seems to say that she has doubts of her own abilities...

In her childbirth prep books she's been reading, the statement was made that
if there was to be a problem breastfeeding, it would be with a large breasted
woman. Who knows what context that was said in, perhaps to reassure that size
has nothing to do with supply, but I think it has set up in her mind that
there may be a problem.

What can I do to support her in this? Where can I get information on
faciliating breastfeeding in large-breasted women to forward to her? Any
problems I recall reading relating to large breasts from Lactnet seem to be
with latching on properly. Is that correct? What would be the best book(s)
for me to send to her for really good information...Womanly Art of
Breastfeeding? I know that any reassurances and advice from the incredible
resources on Lactnet will be a big help to her.

Finally, is subscribing to Lactnet an appropriate thing for my sister to do to
get up to speed on things? I get a lot of info that helps me in my work at
WIC...but how do all of you feel about a purely "laywoman" lurking around? A
lot of what is posted is regarding problems, for obvious reasons...think it
might scare her off?

Thanks in advance for your help.
