Rachael, here 3rd stage starts at the birth of the baby and ends with the
birth of the placenta. Is that how you see it? If so, 6 hours is a long time
for a placenta to remain. I would wonder about effects of hormones, and if
it is possible that a fragment of the placenta remained in the uterus.
Usually there would be blood loss as the body tried to rid itself of foreign
material, but that would be something I'd check. Progesterone levels, which
would remain high with fragments and prevent an increase in milk supply,
might give an indication if that's the case.
