Entirely as a non-medic, but just using common sense, I can't see that
you acted inappropiately. I know they can go a long time once
breastfeeding is established, but...   Are you doubting yourself because
the doctors and nurses were blaze about it (even though you are the
expert)? Or is it just a reaction to having to tell a mother to
bottlefeed?

Is it possible that this mother was somehow deliberately sabotaging
breastfeeding, because she felt she needed "permission" to bottlefeed?
I've seen women do this (I had a friend use a nipple shield specifically
because she heard me saying they can diminish milk supply - she later
admitted it). It might be sad that this baby will not be breastfed, but
just think, at least that night, maybe he went to sleep with a full
stomach?
