Hello again Lactnetters.

I had to uns*b during a very busy summer and now that I'm back I'll
reintroduce myself. My name is Shirley MacKinley, I have two children, a
boy 4 and a girl 3 (who is still breastfeeding). I am president of a local
breastfeeding support group called Mommy Best. We have recently secured a
permanent location to set up a drop-in centre and hold our monthly meetings
in a family resource centre here in town. We have applied for a grant so we
can fund one of our members to train as an IBCLC and we are very hopeful.
There are no lactation consultants in the area at present. Our local
hospital is about to launch an early discharge program so we anticipate our
services will be required more than ever before.

Now, my question, a lady called me the other day and she stopped nursing two
years ago. In May of this year she began having painful full breasts and
began leaking milk, sometimes to the point of requiring a nursing pad.
During her period she has no milk. She has been to her doctor and she is
not pregnant and her prolactin levels are normal. Can someone out there let
me know what might be going on for this lady. Thank you in advance.

Shirley MacKinley
