Dear Lactnet Friends:

Historically, the AAP and formula have always been intertwined. As women
breastfed
less, the pediatricians stepped up; mothers were given a new formula recipe
at
each visit, so the liquid fed to baby would support the baby's growth. As
more women relied on the new professionals, i.e. pediatricians, formula
became embedded in medical and popular culture.

The AAP accepts money from industry, and has for years. So this news,
about Nestle giving money, should come as no surprise....

Here is where a strong government would be effective, to fund objective
research
on critical health issues.

warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, BSN, Mother of 2, MS, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI, ANLC
