Jay,
That is such a good point you bring up. I don't think to many professionals,
both doctors and nurses realize the implications of just one bottle. You hit
it perfectly.

<< One of the most damaging aspects of those little bottles of water (or,
worse
still, ABM) is the satisfaction they can produce as they discourage a baby
from wanting to nurse stronger and stronger.
Nurses and doctors who do not know these basic principles are unpardonably
 ignorant. Let's deal with them.

Hey friends, I feel like boasting a bit. I am a visiting nurse in New York
City, maternal and childhealth program. I had to go see a mom with a 4yr & a
5yr daughters and she just had identical triplet daughters!!! She is
breastfeeding!!!!! When I first saw her, she had two babies home and was
trying to nurse. I helped her with getting both babies latched on at the same
time, she had trouble with this. When the third baby came home, she was very
tiny, and mom was giving her a bottle because the other two would wake first
to nurse. I convinced her to nurse the little one, even if she had nursed
the others first, and taught her breast compression, I also gave her Jack's
article on breast compression. Well, it worked, she is now exclusively
nursing the littlest one & nursing the other two most of the time. They are
gaining weight beautifully, I weigh them at each visit. She is still giving
some supplements, but only 2 to 3 times daily. I told her she is my hero, she
is so calm and together. I don't think I could do as good a job with 5
daughters, 3 being newborns!! I am having a hard enough time with one teenage
daughter, can't even imagine 3 at the same time. I even got to take photos of
her nursing two, with the third one in the middle!!!
Warmly and feeling I made a difference,
