Hi, All: I saw a blurb on the news a couple of weeks ago in which the reporter
said that recent research is finding that the ideal position (mom's) for nursing
is semi- or fully reclined. I can't remember if they said where this came from.
Does anyone else remember seeing or hearing this or know the source? Baby-
led latching does not work well at all if mom is in an upright sitting position.
For those of you who are not having success with BLL, is mom in a reclining
position or is she sitting upright? BLL also works well in sidelying, if mom is
more comfortable this way.
Three things need to be happening during a successful nursing:

1. Both mom and baby are positioned comfortably. Mom's brain should be
telling her that she could nurse all day in that position.

2. Baby must be getting milk.

3. Mom's nipples need to be comfortable.

If any or all of the above is not happening, intervention is in order (preferrably
the mother's, with LC's as needed).
