Dear All,

 

Just a reminder that human milk is *the* source of prebiotics, with their
role in fostering growth of beneficial probiotics in the bowel. We need to
let parents know that one-third of the components of human milk are
prebiotics, so that advertising of the additives in artificial substitutes
doesn't mislead them to believe their babies will miss out if exclusively
breastfed.  Consumers don't generally know that feeding with artificial
infant formalae will actually reduce their babies' intake of these goodies.
Who is going to tell them that breastmilk has all these, and more, and in a
form that human babies can use, if we don't?

 

Before I go 'nomail' later today, I want to reiterate what I have said
before: Congratulations to the list mothers and participants (lactnetters)
for maintaining  courteous and generous sharing of ideas, references and
experience.

I shall return when my current busy period is over. (I thought this year was
going to be quiet!)
