The booklet with the horrendous comments is put out by US Healthcare
(address: PO Box 3013, Blue Bell, PA 19422 ) and given to pregnant
women through its Little Appleseed Program. This company is one of the
largest (if not the largest after a recent merger with Aetna) HMOs in
NJ, PA, NY, and CN, and may also be in other states. Many of our LLL
moms, including myself, are covered by them. The company will also not
pay for lactation consultants, but will send a nurse (who knows nothing
about BF, IMHO) to your house once within 30 days. I recently wrote in
about this, and they published my letter and their response in their
magazine-so this is official policy.

If Alicia Dermer, MD, is out there, you might want to let people know
what you found out about the booklet.

Please, please write them if you have time. If anyone wants a copy of
the incorrect and misleading information, I would be happy to reproduce
it.

Back to lurking,
Melissa K., Eastampton, NJ.
