Many years ago I asked a medela rep about the differences. Yes, the hospital
grade pump is for multiple users and the pump in style is for a single user.
the difference is in the pump. The pump is rated for about 200 hours
(cheaper pump) for the pump in style where the Hospital grade is rated much higher.

I've had my hospital grade pump for 11 years and about 3 people have used it
long term and others have used it for a few months. Its still kicking!
