Had a mom yesterday that has three children. "Tried" bfing with each
one. Each time baby would be gassy/fussy/crying after a few minutes at
breast. No similar response with formula so previously she wound up
switching to formula as it seemed to make the baby happier and less
crying meant less stress for her. This time she wanted to try to stick
it out but the baby's crying is torture for her and she feels like she is
the cause via the breastmilk. Again the baby seems fine with formula. I
have witnessed this now and I'm at a loss as to what to suggest. Nothing
in mom's diet seems to be implicated and she takes no meds other than
PNV's. Baby nurses for 2-3 minutes with a good latch, swallowing heard,
then begins to cry in pain, pulls up legs and fusses in general. If we
take the baby off for a few minutes and soothe we are able to relatch and
he'll repeat the same process..nurses then crys. Using formula in a
bottle he is fine and takes 2 oz without issue. If we express breastmilk
and feed in bottle fussy behavior repeats. What is going on? Am I
missing something?
