I would highly suggest the pre and post weight as well. I used to rely a lot more on sounds of swallow until i started to do a lot of oral exams and noted that there were many babies who made the same movements and sounds of suck/swallow at the breast that they made when suckling on my gloved finger. There are some babies who just confuse us.

I have also learned that many babies after a time period of recieving smaller amounts will become 'content' with the small amount. Many babies who i see that have been diagnosed with failure to thrive the parents report to me: a happy content baby, sleeps well, and falls asleep at the breast usually relaxed.

So this baby may be having problems transfering milk - he may be getting enough to have wet and stool diapers but not enough let over for weight gain.
