Not every breastfed toddler will be unable to tolerate a few days
seperation from mom. My daughter Alyssa stayed a few weekends with her
grandparents starting at age 2. She enjoyed herself, and did not miss me
overmuch. I, on the other hand, drove my husband crazy with my
loneliness for my little ones. I thought she would run right to my
breast when she returned, but she just waited for her regular bedtime
snuggle and nurse, and instead excitedly caught me up on the events of
the weekend. Perhaps the parents could compromise on a few weekend
visits, rather than a week long one that would be more difficult for the
breastfeeding relationship.
