Tonight I had 6 students from TSU ( an historically Black University in TN,
USA) attend my LLL meeting! How refreshing! They apparently have a wonderful
nutrition professor who speaks highly of breastfeeding and asks them to
attend a LLL meeting. It is a maternal nutrition class. I was so happy! They
shared their knowledge, asked wonderful questions and seemed really open to
learn.

At the end, one said, " why don't they teach us about this in high school?
Which got me thinking....anyone here worked on educating college students by
developing a presentation to college classes? Have you offered your services
to various college professors, clubs, sorrorities? I want to go on a college
tour about breastfeeding, now! These students said they had been influenced
to breastfeed by the way their professor spoke about breastfeeding. I think
it is a big piece of the puzzle that is missing. If we were meeting them,
talking with them and helping them make the commitment to breastfeeding
before they are even pregnant....WOW! So much could change. Especially for
women of color. I was so excited to (as a Black woman) get to speak
face-to-face with 5 young Black women about breastfeeding their future
babies!!!!!

Anyway, I just wanted to share with people who would be as excited as me. I
figured we could all use some good news right now!

Micky
