Hi all, me again,

I'm catching up with work and thus come up with questions I would like to
collect some of your colelctive wisdom on.
I'm interested to hear what in the countries around the world is routine in
the feeding care of infants with a congenital heart disease. These babies
need extra calories because they are often slow gainers and need their
strength for upcoming surgery, but need restriction in fluid intake becuaase
they tend to edema.
Many health care professionals find it the easiest way to feed these babies
high calorie formula, but ofcourse ''we'' know their mother's milk would be
the better choice if it were possible to increase calorie contents, reduce
fluid content and keep the other nutrients the same. Some opt to do some
lactoengineering in order to feed the baby a high-fat human milk. Others
argue that that procedure will end up with a relative decrease in other
nutrients (the ones that are in the watery aprt of the milk), thus not
providing the baby with the proteins and vitmins.minerals he also needs for a
healthy growth.
I did a Lactnet search and did find a couple of usefull posts, but would
really like to hear more about what is actually done in different
countries/hospitals around the world. References would be heplfull as well.

Thanks in advance,

Warmly greeting,

Gonneke
