I was interested to read the post about a mother whose milk never came in,
because I have a client in this situation and  am baffled.

She is a proven lactator.  Had normal breast changes, engorgement and
adequate, lengthy lactation with child #1.  New born #2 was discharged with
wt loss of 10%, and went on to lose another 5% before formula was initiated.
No colostrum, no engorgement.  Baby still was put to breast at q3 hr
intervals for 10 days and would dry suck for 5 min. or so.  No detectable
intake with test weights.  Mom is healthy and  has had normal thyroid
screen. MD denies it is possible there is retained placenta.  No excess
bleeding, stress, drugs, herbs or extreme dietary restrictions.  I started
her on a rental pump on Day 12 when I saw her.  MD started her on 10 day
course of Reglan, during which she has diligently pumped.  She is now on Day
8 of that therapy. There have been a total of 3 DROPS of fluid during this
whole event.  MD is going to see her in one week.  Don't you all think its
GOT to be retained placenta?  What else could it be?
