<<In my husband's people -- I'm sorry, he doesn't know if this would be
his father's people (Pouiez) or his mother's (Otocoteri) sp??) life is
divided into seven year periods, too. The first seven years are called
the age of forgetting. My interpretation of his version (sorry, we're
very conscious of appropriation) is that people come into the world as
almost pure spirit, and have to forget their spirit-life in order to
learn to live in the physical bodies. >>

Jo-Anne,
I had never quite made that connection w/ weaning from the breast before.
Your husband's traditions are consistent with other spiritual teachings in
the world. Even Joseph Chilton-Pearce teaches of this. I have learned of the
age of forgetting, then the age of consciousness, as we begin to connect to
our history in the physical world (our ancestors) and then in the next cycle
of 7, a remembering of our purpose here. Many mystical teachings refer to
these cycles of 7. This really touched a chord with me. I love it when the
world makes sense in multiple realms. Holism is, of course, about the
mind-body-spirit, so a holistic approach to nursing might well consider this
concept!
