I had a close friend whose baby was born with a serious heart problem and
required heart surgery at seven months to close up the holes in his heart.
She kept him in a sling all the time so that he was always close and could
nurse very frequently - and he did. We figure this meant he was getting
higher-fat milk. It was also less stressful for him as he almost never
cried - at the first squirm and fuss, she'd help him latch on to the breast.
His weight gain was excellent and he didn't start on solids until after his
recovery from surgery.
