I recently had a call from a mother on this same issue. As we were
talking about what was going on in her life, she confided that her older
child had just been killed in a traffic accident, and her breastfeeding
baby was hospitalized, and that she was at the end of her emotional
resources. I was able to encourage her to talk to her doctor about
anxiolytics that would be compatible with breastfeeding, and give her
some resources for counselling to help her cope.
