"these pads really do work to stop leaking, not just absorb it."

Oh, now I get it - the pads apply *pressure* to the nipples to stop the leaking, just like if you press on your nipples with your hands. Its been so long since I had that kind of leaking, I forgot about that trick to stop leaking. I was just wondering how a non-absorbent pad could be helpful with leaking!

(BTW - that was a trick I NEVER learnt or was told about with my first daughter. A perfect example of a behaviour that would be 2nd nature if we lived in a breastfeeding-normal culture. As it was, even when I learnt about it, I still had to figure out how to do this in a "culturally acceptable" manner..ie "I can't touch my own breasts or nipples in public - so to apply pressure *discreetly* I'll have to cross my arms over my chest, and ignore what body language signal that posture sends out!!!)
