Fonterra has built a new dairy protein processing plant in New Zealand in
order to handle the demand for the product, lactoferrin. Lactoferrin is used in
infant formulas, yogurts, and nutritional supplements. And it can also be
used as an additive in fresh milk to prolong its shelf life. I believe that this
lactoferrin is not bovine lactoferrin (cow's milk has very little or no
lactoferrin) and is a gmo product based on research of the human milk component,
lactoferrin. The dairy industry has alot of products to market based on that
research. Here is an interesting quote from the article in regard to the
announcement of this new dairy protein processing plant. (anyone needing the URL to
the article, let me know)
Valerie W. McClain, breastfeeding advocate

“Lactoferrin will be to the dairy industry what aspirin has been to the
pharmaceutical industry,” said Fonterra’s head of health & nutrition Patrick
Geals.
“Research shows that it is the body’s first line of defence against
infections, it boosts the immune system and may have useful properties in the
treatment of some tumours.
