I can't thank those of you that replied to my urgent plea for written
support on clipping frenulums. It helped me sleep last Thursday night.
Well the MD never came in to rant and rave at me. It looks like he is
not going to the hosp. CEO. He did call an emergency staff meeting with
his 5 partners which two reported as "heated and ballistic." The outcome
is that the one partner who believes in clipping and has readily helped
us in the past is probably not going to be "allowed" to clip anymore.
The MD has stated that "surgery" is not within the scope of their
practice. (By the way, they do circumcise!!!) Can any MD's give me info.
on the "scope of the pedi. practice" and how it does cover tongue
clipping?
As to the mom and baby. She called me Friday, (one day after the
incidence with her pedi.), and asked to be seen on Sat. Obviously she
wants to nurse very much. The baby has lost more than 10% weight at day
4. Mom's engrged, pump readily draws out milk, baby gets 0. Baby can't
even suck from the bottle. He desperatly chomps, milks dripping
everywhere, and I was allowed to say nothing about the tongue!! I feel
sick about this. I feel like I'm not fullfilling the "scope of my
practice." She rented a pump to keep up a milk supply, will
breast/bottle feed to pevent further weight loss and return tommorrow.
Mom made the commentt, "I have to get the weight up before the pedi.
visit or as with my first daughter, Dr. **** will "make" me formula
feed. I feel that this women's rights are being infringed upon.
My supervisor who is also a certified NICU nurse and IBCLC, (and has
been very supportive of me), is going to meet with these Doc's armed
with all the info. you sent or recommended.
Once again, I can't thank you all enough and plan to keep you updated.
I am so sad, Dawn
