I have a couple of questions that I wondered if anyone could help me with. My friend, also an IBCLC, has a daughter who had a baby 2 months ago. All was going well with the breastfeeding until a few weeks ago when she had what she thought might be mastitis. This was treated with antibiotics. The mother continued to breast feed on both breasts, and used the breast pump on the affected breast if she felt the baby had not nursed well enough on that side. The mastitis resolved quickly and all went well for the next two weeks. This week the milk supply in one breast is non existent. She can't express a drop! One breast is full in the morning and the other is empty. In spite of all efforts this week to increase the milk supply (increased frequency of nursing on the affected breast and pumping, etc) there is no sign of milk in that breast. She plans to continue breastfeeding as she has a good supply in one breast, but she feels uncomfortably "lop-sided".

What could cause the milk supply to disappear in one breast and not the other?
What else can she do to bring the milk back in that breast?
