One thing that can work in this scenario is to pump both breasts until they are as empty as she can get them, once a day. If a mom can't sleep due to pain I suggest doing it at her bedtime, but otherwise morning works well. Just leave the pump on until the breasts feel floppy and soft. This usually allows breasts to reset at a lower level. Production stays the same but you are not adding to a reservoir of overly full breasts. Moms are often afraid to do this because they are afraid of increasing supply but I have never found it increases supply and it usually makes things so much better for mother and baby. I would also use Sudafed and sage until supply simmers down.
