One more point about teaching moms about bottle feeding. I also agree with
Kathleen Huggins suggestion in her book The Nursing Mother's Guide to
Weaning, that breastfeeding moms sould pump and maintain their milk supply
for a while (I would think a week at least) when they first put their baby on
formula, just in case the baby cannot tolerate it! This gives them time to
see the changes in their baby when running on different "fuel" and the option
to resume breastfeeding if they see adverse reactions in their little one.
It also makes them see they are taking a risk by weaning to formula.
Everyone else in our society treats this so casually.

AND I LOVE the suggestion that you have a mom come up and prepare some in
front of the class, knowing there is a good chance she may spill it. Sending
her off to wash it off quickly as it usually stains is another great visual
aid, and being exact with the measuring, handling the utensils properly, as
many people have never had training in sterile technique and touch the
insides of the bottles, funnels, etc. without realizing how they are
increasing germs in their baby's ABM. I still think emphasizing that the MOM
needs to do it is important. This is too technical with potential for
error, and important for baby to be delegated to just anybody.
