I don't think it's 'dangerous' for the baby to be with her/his mother during
the exam.. If the mother doesn't think its a problem for her, what's the
point. As (future) IBCLC's we know that mother-child closeness is an
important point in the development of a child and I think that if a mother
wants to bring her child with her during the exam, especially a little baby,
she should be able to do that.
Okay, maybe it's disturbing the other candidates having a young child in the
exam room, but that's a problem which can be solved in my opinion.
The other point, don't getting more time to do the exam despite she has to
nurse her baby. I also think that's not right. Her baby has to 'eat' during
that time and if a woman decides to do that herself, it has to be supported.
I don't know how it is in Italy, but in the Netherlands where I live,
working mothers have the right to use a quarter of their working day to
breastfeed their baby or pump her milk. With that in my mind I think it
should be able to give a candidate some time more doing the exam if
necessary.
Rules as not permitting baby's to be with their mom during exam's comes in
my opinion from a culture where breastfeeding isn't the norm but just
something extra. And is that the message we want to give???
