Judy D is right, of course. I understood that children under age about 2
were susceptible to botulism from eating honey since their digestive
tract lacked the flora that destroyed botulism in the GI.
But now I have a question from the medical-types (my med tech husband
didn't know the answer....) Is it possible to get botulism via the
bloodstream? If it is, then there would be no GI flora to destroy them.
My point is, if this scenario is at all possible, then if one puts honey
on an incision (or, more importantly, cracked nipples!) then wouldn't you
be at risk for botulism no matter what your age?
I was really surprised by Marie Davis' post about botulism from sugar and
corn syrup. Didn't know that was possible......how IS it possible, by the
way? Scary stuff, here. Curious in Beer Sheva
