Ginny,
How is the milk supply on that side? Has baby had a preference for the
other side, or is this totally new? I do see babies who nurse on both
sides for a while but one side preferentially, and when they finally run
the milk supply on the less preferred side down, they abandon it
altogether.

If this is not the case, however, then I agree with the others: look for
an undiagnosed ear infection, or have the mother's breast checked for
that rare possibility of cancer.
