I can tell you that the mothers at the hospital where my grandson was born 
are told that the premature babies eat as often as every three hours because 
they are so small, and that when they get bigger they should eat LESS often 
(ie. go on a four hour schedule).

I think a better approach to conserving a premie's energy and helping him 
maintain temperature might be to keep him in kangaroo care.
